You know we’re nearing the end of the Season when Boleh heads for ASTO’s Small Ships Race off Cowes. This year, with volunteer Skipper and Mate Bruce Snelling and Charlie King, our youth crew from the Devon Army Cadet Force put in a strong performance. With a steady breeze and challenging tides, Boleh persevered, finishing only 13 seconds behind second placed Topsail Schooner ‘Johanna Lucretia’ owned by the Island Trust!

The ASTO Small Ships Race weekend is always rather special. Friday afternoon has Boleh shaking down her crew on passage to Cowes, then joining other young Sail Training fleet crews for the Race briefing. Saturday is the Race and, on completion, the prize giving and party with a great atmosphere thoroughly enjoyed by our crews and the many other young people present. Sunday morning sees Boleh depart Cowes for Haslar and the return home of a tired and happy crew.

A great event and a great weekend. We are very grateful to all those who made this weekend possible: ASTO, our support team and volunteer afterguard, our generous funders, and of course, Kevin Found and the Devon ACF for getting the cadets to and from Boleh!
