Robin Kilroy designed, built and sailed his historic junk yacht Boleh from Singapore to Salcombe almost 75 years ago. In 2009 two of his nephews set up the Boleh Trust charity to restore Boleh and put her to work helping those with challenge in their lives. Under George and Henry’s chairmanship the Trust has transformed Boleh from daunting restoration Project to MCA-coded sail training vessel busy with charity sails. With the brothers’ departure this Season an era ends but Robin’s great niece and Trustee, Caroline stays to maintain the family connection.
So time moves on and we are proud to announce that our valued volunteers, giving their time so willingly for the Trust, now have a new Chairman. Locally based like many of our Trustees, Chris Laws is a keen sailor and has followed Boleh’s progress for many years. With an academic background in sport science and youth development, and experience at senior level with charities and Government committees, he is well qualified to take forward the Boleh story. In other changes, Ant Atkinson-Willes, Trust Secretary, now joins the Board as a Trustee. Welcome all!
